2011 should be a great year….

… based upon the number of e-mails promising me millions in lottery winnings or a share in providing a safe-haven for some inheritance to a job offer representing some organization in Asia for $3,500 per month. Many of these suspicious e-mail also have strange attachments.  Apparently there are still folks that still fall prey to these criminals. A sampling:

Subject: Hello
1. $3,500 Every month as your Salary.
2. 10% of every debt you collect from any delinquent customer
and then the Company will instruct you on how to send the rest
balance to their End.
If Accepted kindly contact Mr John Change of (APM) he
will advice you of Next step to Follow.

Subject: Happy New Year
It is obvious that this notification will come to you as a
surprise but please find time to read it carefully as we
congratulate you over your success in the following official
publication of results of the E-mail electronic online
Sweepstakes  organized by Microsoft, in conjunction with
the foundation for the promotion of software products,
(F.P.S.) held this month of JANUARY  2011, in London
United Kingdom. Where your email address emerged as one
of the online Winning emails in the 2nd category and therefore
attracted a cash award of 850,000.00 Gbp
{Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Great British Pounds

The Nigerian scam dates back 80+ years. (accessed 10 Jan 2011 from http://www.snopes.com/fraud/advancefee/nigeria.asp) According to Snopes, this scam netted $100 million in the US by 1997.
